ASLA, a Professional Association More Than 100 Years Old, Gives a Thumbs-up to Luming Park.
American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) announced its 2016
Professional Awards on September 1st (US local time). Luming Park, designed by
Turenscape which was led by Peking University Professor Yu Kongjian, won 2016
ASLA Honor Award in General Design Category.
ASLA speaks highly of Luming Parking and regards it as an “oasis”
surrounded by dense new urban development. The landscape architect created a
dynamic and beautiful urban park by incorporating the agricultural strategy of
crop rotation and a low maintenance meadow. An elevated floating network of
pedestrian paths, platforms and pavilions create a visual frame for this
cultivated swathe and the natural features of the terrain and water without
over-intervention of the nature. Using these strategies, a deserted mismanaged
landscape was dramatically transformed into a productive and beautiful setting
for urban living, while preserving the natural and cultural patterns and
processes of the site. By balancing human intervention with natural views, the
park achieves harmonious co-existence between human and nature. The park has
been very successful as a place for local residents to relax and recreate and as
a new landmark in the city.
ASLA, founded in 1899, is an international professional association. It
gives awards to excellent projects in landmarks, business buildings,
residentials, institutions, planning, communication and research. Besides,
Luming Park also received nomination of World Architecture Festival.
